Art/Mutant Vehicles Festivals & Shows
Art/mutant vehicles are trucks, cars, or bikes adorned to resemble fantasy characters, themes, or as accessories integrated with the operators’ costumes. They are often seen in street parades or nature-immersed environments like events in the desert, where they frequently carry dancing people dressed up in costumes and play music.
While art vehicles are prevalent at events like Carnivals, Burning Man (BM) & BM regionals, and post-apocalyptic gatherings worldwide, there are also specialized events dedicated solely to art vehicles. Some of these events have been running for nearly forty years.
At FUNDSTUME, we view these art and mutant vehicles as extensions of human creativity and as playgrounds for costume makers. FUNDSTUME will conduct research, document, and publish insights into the character creation, materials, techniques, and processes involved in art vehicle design and fabrication. Additionally, FUNDSTUME plans to offer workshops for groups and individuals interested in constructing their own art vehicles. FUNDSTUME will collaborate closely with the organizations hosting these events and with individual artists dedicated to art vehicle making to achieve these goals.
FUNDSTUME will also design and create their own art truck for parading at these events, for use as display during those research presentations and as reference during the workshops.
Through its Grant Giving Program, FUNDSTUME will provide funding to several out of 12+ organizations for running their events and to selected independent groups and individuals for carrying out activities related to mutant vehicle art within those. In addition to financial support, FUNDSTUME will offer human resources for project execution and fiscal sponsorship services.
