Speaking the language of the soul
Halloween(-like) Celebrations
Halloween originated from a blend of Christian, Celtic, and Gaelic folk beliefs aimed at warding off evil spirits, later influenced by Gothic and horror literature, as well as popular fictional characters, celebrities, and archetypes. It spread across the southern United States through Anglican and Catholic colonists, gained popularity throughout North America during the mass migrations of the 19th century, and has since extended to parts of South America, continental Europe, and East Asia.
FUNDSTUME will participate in these celebrations by researching the historical, cultural, and religious contexts of costume art, focusing on themes of life, death, rebirth, and the afterlife. FUNDSTUME plans to develop costume characters including masks, full-body costumes, and giant costumes specifically designed around these themes, trying them out in street parades and fairs, as well as in haunted attractions. In doing so, FUNDSTUME will collaborate not only with the organizations hosting Halloween(-like) events but also with non-profits dedicated to empowering impoverished and marginalized communities.
Through its Grant Giving Program, FUNDSTUME will provide funding to several out of 10+ organizations for running their events and to select independent groups for carrying out activities within those and for executing similar independent events. In addition to financial support, FUNDSTUME will offer human resources for project execution and fiscal sponsorship services.
