U.S. Carnivals

This project is dedicated to researching Carnivals in mainland U.S. regions such as Louisiana, Missouri, Alabama, Florida, and Texas. It focuses on the contributions made by the Spanish and French colonialists, and the African slaves, from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The research documents costumes, art cars, music, and lyrics from their origins to the present day. The project outcomes include presentations, lectures, research publications, exhibitions, and workshops. Spanning four years, it involves collaborations with the Carnival Committees in each town, affiliated Carnival groups, local arts and cultural centers, history and genealogy centers, individual artists, and local media.
